Some of the best men we meet have the sobriety and the will and not the first month's fee. He just got out. The job starts Monday. The paycheck comes a week after that. The bed costs money today. That gap is where relapse lives, and about four hundred dollars closes it: two weeks covered in full, a partial third week, and then he is paying his own way like everybody else in the house.
Churches
Your congregation already meets these men at the food pantry and at the recovery meeting in your basement. Covering three weeks turns a prayer for him into an address for him, and we will tell you plainly how he is doing.
Clubs and lodges
Rotary, Lions, the Legion, the Knights of Columbus: one man's first weeks is a line item your members can see, in your own county, with a name and a story at the end of the year instead of a receipt.
Businesses
Some of you already employ men in recovery. A covered first month keeps a good worker housed and showing up on time. Second chance hiring works better when the second chance has a bed.
Sponsorships pay program fees at the residence, on the house's invoice, at its posted rate. No cash passes through a resident's hands.
